💛Dr. Charles R. Drew – A trailblazer in the field of blood banking and transfusion medicine. His research helped save the lives of children battling cancer by revolutionizing blood storage and transfusions, making vital treatments more accessible.
💛Dr. Alexa Irene Canady – The first African American woman to become a neurosurgeon in the United States, Dr. Canady has been a leader in pediatric neurosurgery, improving outcomes for children with neurological conditions, including those caused by cancer.
💛 Henrietta Lacks – Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line, the first immortalized human cell line and one of the most important cell lines in medical research.
These individuals are just a few of the many who have paved the way for future generations. Their legacies inspire us to continue our mission of providing care, support, and comfort to families navigating pediatric illness.

Meet Joseph and Rosa Luna. The Luna family first visited our House years ago when their grandson, Joseph, was undergoing Neuroblastoma treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering. What was supposed to be a short stay to confirm diagnosis quickly stretched into months, and the House became more than just a place to sleep—it became their second home. After Joseph lost his battle to pediatric cancer in 2009, the Lunas made a decision that would honor his memory and the community that had supported them: they would return to RMH-NY as volunteers. Each year, Joseph and Rosa save up for the trip and every year they make the trip from their home and family in Texas to another home in NYC at Ronald McDonald House New York. “Part of our heart is here,” Joseph smiled. “We walk through the doors and feel the same presence of love, and we come back to be part of that love—not just to receive it, but to give it.” Joseph and Rosa, thank you for being the incredibly special and caring people that you are❤#nyc#goodnews#thankyou#kindness
