A Magical Bunny Visit Brings Smiles, Laughter, and Lifted Spirits at Ronald McDonald House New York
Spring arrived with sirens, smiles, and soaring surprises this week at Ronald McDonald House New York, and ABC7 Eyewitness News was there to catch every heartwarming moment.
In a joyful show of solidarity and seasonal spirit, members of New York’s Bravest and Finest—FDNY and NYPD—teamed up to deliver a very special guest to the kids staying at RMH-NY: the one and only Spring Bunny.
But this wasn’t your average egg hunt or park hop. No, at 405 East 73rd Street, spring shows up in style.
With the help of a bucket truck and lots of laughter, the Spring Bunny ascended the walls of the House, rising up to the windows of immune-compromised children undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals. From behind the glass, little faces lit up with joy as the bunny waved, danced, and pressed paw to pane for a special hello—up close and personal, yet safe and mindful of each child’s medical needs.
ABC7 captured the delight as families inside the House watched in awe. Parents snapped photos. Children waved excitedly. And the city’s frontline heroes—firefighters and police officers—stood proudly in support.
Bringing Hope to Every Floor
For children and families facing pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, spring can feel a long way off. But at Ronald McDonald House New York, we believe in bringing the seasons to our kids—no matter where they are in their journey.
This unique event is part of our growing calendar of joyful experiences that help children stay connected to the wonder of childhood, even while in medical treatment. From window visits and themed parties to hospital Family Rooms and hospitality carts, RMH-NY continues to innovate at the intersection of healthcare and hospitality.
A Springtime Tradition
With NYPD’s signature sirens and FDNY’s aerial assist, the bunny’s arrival felt like a citywide celebration. Kids staying at the House—even those confined to their rooms—got front-row seats to the magic.
And for those well enough to come outside? There were bunny high-fives, plush toy giveaways, and plenty of photo ops to make the day unforgettable.
