Saturday Night Team Culinary Extravaganza
By Megs DiDario, Volunteer Staff Writer
There was a smorgasbord of both comfort food and healthier fare at the House on Saturday night, February 2nd, thanks to the hard work of the Saturday night team.  Among the chicken nuggets and traditional mac ‘n cheese dishes were whole wheat varieties of the fan favorite dish, along with steamed carrots and other healthy snacks.
Because the flu outbreak has prevented many outside groups from bringing in dinner to the House over the past few weeks, the Saturday night team decided to pool together their own cooking talents for the families that night.
Saturday night volunteer Paula Christensen and Team Leader Helena Russo led the team that cooked mac n’ cheese dishes, chicken nuggets, and vegetables. Managing the kitchen behind the scenes was Team Leader Simba Dutt-Mazumdar.
Volunteer Caitlin McHugh led a culinary team that prepared two healthy (and still yummy!) varieties of mac n’ cheese: a homemade, whole wheat variety with tomatoes and a second dish with ricotta cheese and vegetables.
A very special thanks to the Saturday team for all of their hard work that night.  And remember, volunteers – it is still not too late to get your flu shot if you have not done so already.

"Help the House" Fundraiser
By Megs DiDario, Volunteer Staff Writer
The guests were rocking out to the rhythm and blues and classic rock tunes of the popular “Hey Baby” cover band. Held on Thursday, February 21st at the Parlour on West 86th Street, the “Help the House” event was another successful fundraiser organized by Thursday night volunteer Jim Molloy.
The Parlour, which has hosted other fundraising events in the past for Ronald McDonald House New York, generously offered a 3-hour open bar for event guests in the downstairs lounge. The Hey Baby Band, who donated their musical talents free of charge as well, played in the adjoining room, where guests also had the chance to dance near the stage.
Additional funds were raised for the House through a 50/50 raffle and a raffle of various prizes. Among the prizes included signed Yankee photographs, Apple gift cards, as well as gift certificates to restaurants throughout the city.
In addition to the musical entertainment, House Magician and volunteer John Savarese wowed the guests with his magic tricks and mentalist acts.
With over fifty people in attendance – including members of both the NYPD and Yonkers Fire Department, two organizations that have generously supported the House for many years – as well as other volunteers & supporters of the House, the event had an impressive showing.
A very special thanks to Jim Molloy, the staff of the Parlour, and the members of the Hey Baby Band for helping to pull together another memorable fundraising night out for the friends & volunteers of Ronald McDonald House New York.
