During International Family Week (April 28th- May 2nd) and only weeks before the world will recognize the UN-supported International Day of Families on May 15th, RMH-NY celebrates the incredible bravery of families like Edgar and Sirlene’s, who left everything behind in Paraguay to save their daughter Candela’s life. Their story reminds us that hope knows no boundaries and that…at Ronald McDonald House New York, every family belongs.
If love could be measured in generations, you’d find it in abundance in one particular suite at Ronald McDonald House New York (RMH-NY) on East 73rd street in Manhattan. Inside those four walls are three hearts tethered tightly together: Marie, her son Mateo, and her mother, Ana Patricia. Three generations—grandmother, mother, and child—sharing a room, a journey, and a devotion that defies borders.

This Black History Month, we honor the incredible contributions of three remarkable individuals who have shaped the future of pediatric cancer and illness research. Their passion, dedication, and groundbreaking work have made a profound impact on countless families.
💛Dr. Charles R. Drew – A trailblazer in the field of blood banking and transfusion medicine. His research helped save the lives of children battling cancer by revolutionizing blood storage and transfusions, making vital treatments more accessible.
💛Dr. Alexa Irene Canady – The first African American woman to become a neurosurgeon in the United States, Dr. Canady has been a leader in pediatric neurosurgery, improving outcomes for children with neurological conditions, including those caused by cancer.
💛 Henrietta Lacks – Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line, the first immortalized human cell line and one of the most important cell lines in medical research.
These individuals are just a few of the many who have paved the way for future generations. Their legacies inspire us to continue our mission of providing care, support, and comfort to families navigating pediatric illness.
As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor their achievements and the many lives they’ve touched.

The House had a special visit from Jack’s PACK today! 🚔 Dressed in their uniforms, this group of officers from London’s Metropolitan Police Service flew from the UK to visit our families before they run a half marathon tomorrow in Central Park to raise money for Neuroblastoma research. We don’t know what the kids loved most - photos with their new friends or honking the horn of the police vehicle decorated to look just like the ones in the UK. Jack’s PACK (Police Against Cancer in Kids) is the fundraising team of ‘The JACK Foundation’ (Joining Against Cancer in Kids) which was set up during Jack Brown’s fight against the childhood cancer Neuroblastoma. Jack and his family stayed at RMH-NY while he received treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering. We are grateful to be part of his legacy and host the Jack PACK when they come to NYC!#keepingfamilesclose#JacksPack
With summer upon us, we can thank Dylan’s Dream Team for making things just a little bit sweeter for our families! 🍦
When the heat sets in, they can cool down with an ice cream from the new freezer in our lobby donated by the Murphy family, also known as Dylan’s Dream Team. Dylan and his family stayed at the House on and off from 2016 - 2018 and, due to his treatment, sometimes all Dylan could eat was the ice cream in the lobby of the House. Years later, his family found out we no longer had the Ice Cream Freezer, and they donated a brand new one themselves and stocked it for our families! This special gift will continue to bring smiles to our families, like it did to Dylan all those years ago!#donation#alumifamily#keepingfamiliesclose
Our families had a BLAST at LEGO Land yesterday. The smiles say it all ❤️
